
Senior Communications Manager
Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors.
Position Summary:
The Senior Communications Manager is a strategic leader within the School’s Marketing and Communications team and directly supervises two Marketing and Communications Coordinators. This position oversees the execution of high-impact storytelling, marketing campaigns, and day-to-day communications strategies to support the School’s enrollment, advancement, campaigns, and brand visibility goals. The Senior Communications Manager leads major content and digital projects across platforms, advises on school-wide messaging, and ensures the coordination of communication efforts across departments. This role requires a collaborative, proactive communicator who can manage people, projects, and priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supervise and mentor two Marketing and Communications Coordinators, guiding project workflows, professional development, and performance.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategic communications plans that support enrollment, fundraising, and community engagement goals.
- Serve as managing editor for key print and digital publications, including the school magazine (the Bulletin), admissions materials, the annual report, and regular newsletters such as the Prairie Post and FVS Weekly.
- Oversee digital communications platforms, including the School website, email marketing systems, and social media channels, with a focus on analytics, content consistency, and engagement.
- Act as primary liaison with external vendors and freelancers, including photographers, designers, printers, and writers.
- Ensure brand consistency across all communications materials and messaging, while adapting content for specific audiences (prospective families, alumni, donors, students, etc.).
- Collaborate with departments across campus to gather content, align messaging, and coordinate communication calendars.
- Advance the School’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through inclusive storytelling and equitable representation in marketing efforts.
- Support the Assistant Head of School for Strategic Communications and Marketing in planning, goal setting, and departmental leadership.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support school-related, activities, sporting events, and special programs.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in communications, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff or managing creative teams.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate work effectively.
- Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort with basic photography, videography, and related production tools.
- Experience with website CMS platforms (e.g., Finalsite), email marketing software, and social media tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive communication practices.
- Valid driver's license
- Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the equivalent Google software suite. Ability and comfort with quickly learning new software and programs.
- Experience with Blackbaud products is preferred. Graphic design experience and proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.

Salary:$55,000 - $75,000, depending on education and experience
