Director of Annual Giving
Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors.
The Opportunity:
Fountain Valley School of Colorado is seeking a creative, dedicated, and results-oriented Director of Annual Giving to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Director of Annual Giving is responsible for the leadership, management, and execution of the School’s $2 million plus annual giving program. The Director ensures that the School is achieving its goals for annual giving dollars raised, percentage of participation, consistency of giving, average gift size, and leadership giving for annual support. In addition, the Director manages Annual Fund stewardship, implementing annual gift acknowledgements and annual gift donor recognition communications and activities. This is a full time, 12-month exempt position with a full benefits package.
Essential Job Duties:
- Plans and implements multi-channel fundraising strategy for annual fund: peer-to-peer solicitations, direct mail, social media, and other outreach; web/email/texting/phone
- Develops sophisticated segmentation approaches and employs creative and innovative appeals
- Secures annual gifts through personal solicitation of a portfolio of assigned prospects
- Collaborates with Major Gift Officers on solicitation strategies for dual ask prospects
- Travels to cultivate prospective Annual Fund donors and to staff regional receptions
- Develops and implements Employee Giving Campaign
- Creates portfolios and assigns Annual Fund prospects to appropriate staff and volunteer solicitors and provides regular reporting to facilitate their work
- Develops collateral materials for volunteers about the Annual Fund
- Provides direction and assistance to recruit, train, and support volunteers for the Annual Fund including, Class Agents, and Reunion Chairs in collaboration with the Director of Alumni Engagement
- Conceives and creates all marketing materials, appeal letters, online solicitations, collateral materials, volunteer manuals, pledge reminders, acknowledgement templates, text campaigns, etc. with support from the Communications department
- Updates and maintains giving information on FVS website and third-party donor sites
- Writes for school publications to promote Annual Fund priorities
- Grows membership in FVS leadership giving society, the Casa Serena Society
- Manages Annual Fund pledge reminders and collection of pledges.
- Working with the Director of Development Operations, ensures gifts are entered correctly and reported directly.
- Personally acknowledges all gifts from assigned prospects.
- Responsible for the accurate content of donor lists and donor stories for the Report on Giving in collaboration with the Director of Development Operations
- Employs annual giving best practices in the areas of solicitation, gift processing, data management, donor relations, and stewardship
- Monitors, evaluates, and reports on success of annual fund on an ongoing basis
- Manages the annual fund budget
- Supports activities, initiatives and events sponsored by the Development Office, including Alumni Engagement, as needed to help reach the office goals
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge, or comparable database
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite
- Experience with giving platforms such as Give Campus
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years’ experience working in an independent school/higher education development office (preferred) with demonstrated success as a program manager and fundraiser.
- Ability and flexibility to travel regularly, work weekends, early mornings, and evenings at various special events, on and off campus
- Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions:
- Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor events
- Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lb.
- Attendance at certain community events will be required.
- Working relationships: students, parents, outside vendors, and all other employees
Salary: $90,000 - $100,000, based on experience
