Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates high school students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors. 

The Position:

The Weekend Barn Associate reports to the Riding Director and Barn Manager.  This position offers a vital role in the management and upkeep of the Fountain Valley School riding program's equine assets and comprehensive facility operations. The successful candidate will provide essential logistical support, including the safe transportation of equines for competitive events, and ensure meticulous standards in barn maintenance, sanitation, and grounds management, operating autonomously across a primarily weekend schedule covering Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Primary contact for weekend barn operations
  • Commit to a schedule encompassing weekends and flexible weekday shifts
  • Provide logistical support and travel with riding teams for competitive events
  • Ensure the safe trailering and transportation of equine assets
  • Demonstrate consistent independent work ethic
  • Construct and maintain jumps and various competition-related infrastructure
  • Manage equine turnout procedures and oversee gate security maintenance
  • Maintain sanitation standards across stalls, feed rooms, and tack areas
  • Paddock cleaning and maintenance
  • Perform comprehensive barn maintenance and arena grooming, including watering the indoor arena
  • Fencing maintenance as needed
  • Uphold the integrity of outdoor enclosures and turnout environments
  • Supervise students in the riding arena and around the barn and paddocks 
  • Regular and reliable in person attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Educational Suite

Qualifications:

  • Must possess or obtain a Colorado Driver’s License within three days
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of relevant experience; prior experience within an independent boarding or day school setting is preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Primarily outdoor environment with intermittent administrative duties
  • Physical Demands: Ability to maintain physical activity for a minimum of 8 hours daily and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Working Relationships: students, parents, outside vendors and all other employees

Salary: $18.00 - 20.00, per hour
