Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors. 

Position Summary: 

The Campus Security Officer plays an essential role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and professional campus environment consistent with independent school best practices. This unarmed position is preventive and community-oriented in nature and does not function as law enforcement. Instead, the Officer serves as a visible, trusted presence supporting student life, daily campus operations, and a culture of safety through proactive engagement, observation, communication, and early intervention. Reporting to the Risk Manager/Security Supervisor, the Campus Security Officer works closely with Facilities and other campus partners. The Officer serves as a primary point of contact for visitors, conducts routine patrols, and supports the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and guests.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable first point of contact for all visitors at the Welcome Center, supporting a positive and secure campus culture
  • Conduct regular patrols of campus facilities, grounds, and residential areas to promote safety, visibility, and situational awareness
  • Observe, document, and promptly report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or unusual activity
  • Provide visible security support for campus events, athletics, and school programs
  • Support badge access, visitor check-in procedures, and campus access-control protocols
  • Utilize security-related technology, including access-control systems, radios, cameras, and incident-reporting software
  • Support calm, respectful, and developmentally appropriate conflict de-escalation and early intervention
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and response efforts, including participation in drills, coordination with local emergency services, and support for first responders
  • Follow all School policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards
  • Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and communication records
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable in person attendance and punctuality
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of campus safety, security, and risk-management principles appropriate to an educational environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and visitors
  • Demonstrated ability to support conflict de-escalation and early intervention in a calm, respectful, and developmentally appropriate manner
  • Ability to remain calm, observant, and supportive during emergencies or high-stress situations
  • Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a team
  • Comfort using security-related technology, including access-control systems, radios, cameras, and incident-reporting software
  • Ability to learn, adapt, and apply new systems, technologies, and procedures as campus needs evolve
  • Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
  • Ability to support and model the School’s mission, values, and community expectations through daily interactions
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license

Education, License and Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma Required. 
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver’s license within 30 days.
  • Experience working in a boarding/day school environment is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Environment: Working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.  
  • Physical demands:  Often requires standing or walking for the entire shift.  
  • Working Relationships: Students, parents, alumni, outside vendors, and all other employees. 

Salary: $17.00 per hour
